Nahar was the horse of Vala Orome, which he rode in the times before Aman's rapture. While Nahar shimmered white in the sunlight, in the moonlight the horse was shiny silver with golden hooves, and when Orome rode quickly, the horse's hooves struck fire and the earth shook under the drumming of its hooves.
When Orome, the hunter of monsters and beasts who loved dogs and plants, rode east again to hunt, Nahar neighed and suddenly stopped. Orome heard many voices singing in the distance. So it was that Nahar had made his master aware of the awakened elves.
After Melkor and Ungoliant had destroyed the Two Trees of Valinor and deep darkness had settled over the land, Orome and his band began the pursuit. The earth trembled under the horses of Orome's band and Nahar's hooves struck fire, the first light to be seen again in Valinor.
What became of Nahar is not reported. Possibly he is the progenitor of the horses of the Noldor and the Mearas.
