Tolkien Maeglin

Even though his reputation rose in those times, Idril mistrusted him after his father's death. Because she knew that he too carried his father's boisterous blood. Maeglin desired her from day one, but since she was his cousin, this love was not a lucky star: the Eldar did not marry close relatives and Idril did not love him, and even less when she found out about his love for her. For many years the pain of hopeless love poisoned his heart. Since he knew how to shut himself off from others, hardly anyone recognized this dark trait in him.
